8 Website Tips From An 8 Figure Website

It’s probably more than 8 tips lol

8 WEBSITE TIPS FROM AN 8 FIGURE WEBSITE

So this would’ve been longer, but I had an hour of work completely disappear. So I’m going to condense this because I’m hungry lol But might be better for you!

I spent all week redesigning our site so that’s why I’m going to write some tips on a great website.

So that’s my first website ever. And that’s today. No matter where you’re at in the process, we can always get better. Here we go!

Simple Is Effective!

  • A fast site is better than a pretty site. It takes a lot of complex thinking to really find a way to simplify your site, but still get your message across. Always put yourself in your customers shoes. Actually, pretend you’ve never heard of your brand. Now, how to we get them from not knowing us to wanting us??

  • Tip: Find a speed optimization freelancer. They can make your site load faster. It will automatically increase your conversion rate. I used Upwork.com. It was $25/hour for 20 hours of work. But site speed is #1 trust me

High Quality Product Imagery

  • The higher quality your images, the higher quality you appear

  • Use professional photography or find a guy that does 3D product renders

    • My site is 3D renders. It’s consistent, looks real, & is amazing quality appearance

    • Again, Upwork.com. I found a guy for $20 / hour. He is still with me to this day

  • I actually use iPhone for all my videos and lifestyle photos on site lol I don’t think its necessary to spend $1K on a couple photos for this.

Steal Ideas!! But Don’t Copy

  • Yeah, when I was starting, I took my 5 favorite DTC sites

  • Then I combined my favorite aspects & asked how I could achieve similar functions

  • No one is reinventing the wheel here, but take the ideas and make it your own! Don’t just copy everything. Be unique to you, but utilize functions that you like

  • Some that I like are chubbies.com, cutsclothing.com, mvmt.com, frostbuddy.com lol

Home Page

Don’t mind some of my format issues 😂 I’m fixing it today, but I had to get this out.

For me, it’s asking, if someone has never heard of me, do they see the page and know exactly who we are and what we do? I never stop asking that

And then I have our different product categories

Maybe best sellers after that

Then I show different color collections. I really focus on the top half!

COLLECTION PAGE

I think MVMT does an amazing job at this one.

  • Beautiful, beautiful collection banner. See the little sale they have there.

  • Filters are crucial is you have a lot of products, otherwise not that crucial lol

  • And what I love is to have some sort of add to cart option right on the collection page.

    • We drive a lot of ads to collection pages & the add to cart proved higher converting!

PRODUCT PAGE

This is the meat and potatoes! Where I focus a lot on because I drive a ton of ads direct to product page!

This is my newest product page. Clean design right 😉 I’ll highlight some features that work!

  • Variants - showing all color options for me allows me to simplify my site and it’s very amazon like with these. This is specific to my business though!

  • Add To Cart - I’ve tested having the Buy It Now or not, and we had higher purchases by having both buttons! Pro Tip: DO NOT HAVE A WHITE ADD TO CART BUTTON

  • If you look below, you can see my “evergreen sale”. Average Order Value is crucial especially if it’s not a consumable product, so I have a quantity discount always. It has been KILLING IT

  • Below that, you can see I offer 30 day free returns. My return rate is so so low and the amount of extra purchases I got from doing this more than offset the returns.

  • Lastly, infographics. Some people never scroll down. So having quality infographics that sell your product and give all info possible is huge

The top right is my favorite part! The add ons!! We have several accessory pieces & this little section below the add to cart sells my over 10K lids a month haha

Now we get into value propositions! Why does a customer need your product??

  • I start off with a classic competitor comparison to show how much better ours is

Then I go right into every amazing thing that Frost Buddy provides to the customer. What are all the benefits they get from buying your product??

The collections are new for me, but I’m trying to find every angle that may get a purchase. Someone may know a friend that is a first responder and see it as a gift! Angles, Angles!! Find them.

And then social proof is so important. Monkey see, monkey do. Let them know how many people love your product already!

Cross selling is big for me now that I have other great products. Sometimes, people don’t know we have other products so I highlight them here along with the differences. If it works for Amazon, it’ll probably work for you lol

And finally I show the product in person so they can see themselves using it in certain situations!

And this is my favorite, I went to our Amazon listing and there have been 180 questions asked. I literally took ever question possible and made the FAQ because why would I want someone to not purchase because they didn’t have one simple question answered!

And then at the bottom like most, all the reviews! Try to get reviews with photos! This will definitely help purchases! I used to offer a small discount as incentive.

CART

What’s so special about the cart? Well, a couple of things proven to work!

I don’t give free shipping. I give free shipping at $60. That little bar there tells the customer “crap, I need to add something else” instead of them already having free shipping.

I tested this and my Average Order Value Went From $58 to $65. Now times that by 250K orders!

And then, we are never done selling. Maybe they had never seen our sippin buddy so I have our trending products to take a look at. Usually this box has about a 4-6% conversion which is 4-6% that we didn’t have. It’s also great if you have add on pieces.

NAVIGATION

This is arguably the hardest and the most important in my opinion. I’ve tried so many different things.

I won’t go too deep because I genuinely don’t know the best way. All I can do is tell you what I’m doing and thinking lol

So Conversion rate specialists all say different opinions on this. How I think about it is from a customer perspective.

I’ve tried to simplify as we’ve added more products so I have Shop -> Drinkware -> then all products

I also have collections because some may be looking for certain colors

I thought about adding a “Shop By Drink” or something to get a different angle in case they don’t know what a To-Go Buddy is or a “Big Buddy”

Some ways to look at it are By Category or I could have done like “Beer & Seltzer”, Hydration, “Soda Bottles”, “Wine”

Put thought into what will be the easiest for your customer to navigate. What is it they are looking for?

And A/B test it! See which one works better.

If I could give any last tip, it’s to keep testing, keep learning, and just keep breaking your own site!! It can ALWAYS improve! I’ve probably edited mine over 1000 times in 3 years.

Hopefully these tips help a little bit!

Also random note, one thing I’ve done this week is met with awesome founders. You can learn more in 15 minutes than 6 months of work sometimes. I give them value, they give it back, and boom, great relationship!!

Networking has been so crucial to my success. Just get out there and create some genuine relationships!

That was a lot but if you’re still here, share this newsletter with someone it might help 😊

Also, follow me on Twitter & Linkedin for shorter tips haha

Til Next Week!

Stay Frosty 🍻
